Custom Woven Blankets LLC, a small family-owned business run by Army veteran Garrett LaMarche and his wife Grace Everitt, recently launched a new charitable mission: to design and deliver custom-made woven cotton blankets to military veterans in DC area nursing homes at no charge. “Nursing homes can be chilly,” says Everitt, “And our veterans deserve something unique and special made just for them.”
Custom Woven Blankets was recently granted official trademark licenses for the United States Air Force, Space Force, Army, and Navy. “It was a long road,” noted LaMarche, “but totally worth it. I was especially excited about getting the Army license as that’s my branch, and the Air Force license, since both of my parents were in the Air Force and served a combined 36 years.”

Everitt works with elders in nursing homes on a regular basis and knows firsthand that blankets are a frequent wish list item. “Care facilities do their best to make their spaces feel welcoming, but at the end of the day, it’s a medical facility,” she says. “Long term residents want their space to feel homey, cozy, and more personable, and in a room where the bed is often a focal point, blankets and linens play a key role.”

With the official military licenses granted, Custom Woven Blankets has released a line of designs featuring the various branches’ seals and logos that can be personalized with the service member’s name, rank, and years of service. Five percent (5%) of each sale goes towards the Custom Woven Blankets “Veteran’s Blanket Fund”, which will cover the costs of creating and hand-delivering these personalized cotton throw blankets for nursing home veterans that cannot afford them. “Our initial goal is 10 blankets,” explains LaMarche, “We’re trying to be reasonable…but the long term goal is to scale that into the hundreds if we can.”
LaMarche served 14 years in the US Army as a Blackhawk helicopter pilot. He joined the business full-time in 2024. “Gracie and her Dad, Paul, started this business seven years ago and I saw how happy they made people. I didn’t think I would end up in the blanket business of all things, but it’s so rewarding to bring these unique visions to life.”
